Pędy są wyprostowane wzniesione, liście wąskie i grubo karbowane, o klinowatych nasadach. Drobne, pojedyncze kwiaty, w zależności od odmiany - białe, różowe w odcieniach, niebieskie lub fioletowe zebrane są w wierzchołkowe, kłosokształtne, strzeliste grona.
